Tom Brady reportedly has his sights set on one top candidate to fill the Las Vegas Raiders' head coaching void.
Reports emerged earlier this week about Brady's serious influence on the Raiders' coaching search. Brady, who became a limited partner of the Raiders in October 2024, is already using his influence to help his team land one of the NFL's most coveted head coaching candidates: Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, there was uncertainty about whether or not Johnson would even consider interviewing for the Raiders given the team's dysfunction over the past few years. Las Vegas has gone through four different head coaches over the last four seasons.
However, Brady was said to have "personally vouched" for Johnson to the Raiders' brain trust. Per the report, Brady was also the one who "implored" Johnson to take an interview with Las Vegas and the two sides spoke virtually on Friday.
Johnson has generated a ton of interest around the league for his services since last offseason. Instead of taking one of the available openings back then, he opted to return to the Lions for the 2024 campaign and helped Detroit nab the top seed in the NFC. The interest in Johnson has only grown since.
The 38-year-old has reportedly met with several other teams, including the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New England Patriots.
If Johnson makes the unexpected decision of choosing Las Vegas over every other vacancy, Raiders fans will largely have Brady to thank.
