Daniel Jones is officially a Minnesota Viking.

The Vikings formally announced the signing of Jones and rookie edge Gabriel Murphy, whom the team cut just a couple of days ago, on Friday. Both Jones and Murphy were signed to the practice squad.

Jones comes to Minnesota with 70 NFL games of experience under his belt, having completed 64.1% of his passes for 14,582 yards and 70 touchdowns versus 47 interceptions. He'll hope to reignite his career with the Vikings, much like Sam Darnold has done this season. Murphy hasn't yet appeared in an NFL game, as he was on injured reserve until earlier this week.

To make room for them on the practice squad, the Vikings had to release two players and cut ties with veteran tight end Robert Tonyan and offensive tackle Julian Pearl.

Pearl never was active for the Vikings after joining the team this season but Tonyan did appear in five games. The former Chicago Bear and Green Bay Packer looked great in training camp and was frequently active early in the season while T.J. Hockenson recovered from his ACL surgery. However, Tonyan hardly played on offense, totaling just 15 offensive snaps over five games and zero catches.

With Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse all healthy now, Tonyan became expendable.
