Adam Lowry signs five-year, $16.25 million deal with Jets

The Winnipeg Jets sit second in the NHL North standings with 57 points, only three behind division leaders the Toronto Maple Leafs, and will be headed to postseason play whenever the all-Canadian group of clubs can begin the Stanley Cup Playoffs next month.

Ahead of the weekend, Winnipeg locked down one of its own.

Per the league's official website, forward Adam Lowry has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract worth $16.25 million to stay with the Jets. The deal carries an average annual value of $3.25 million.

Lowry, who turned 28 years old in March, made his Winnipeg and NHL debut during the 2014-15 campaign and has recorded 65 goals and 78 assists for 143 points across 452 career regular-season games. Ahead of Friday's action, he had tallied eight goals and 12 assists in 44 contests this season. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the playoffs.

Lowry spoke with the media about the new deal on Friday afternoon:

"It's such a good fit playing in Winnipeg," he explained, per Mitchell Clinton of JetsTV. "I love my teammates, I love playing for this team. I'm thrilled I got it done."
