Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler has set an NHL record for the most ice time in a regular season game with 38:55.

Fowler set the record during Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes when he registered 38:55 of ice time in the Ducks' 5-4 OT loss. The Ducks had only been able to dress five defensemen after Scott Harrington was a late scratch for them, so Fowler had to step up and fill a lot of those minutes.

With that, Fowler surpasses the previous mark set by Dennis Wideman when he was with the Calgary Flames, as he had 38:05 of ice time in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on January 18th, 2014. However, unlike Fowler, who was the lone defenseman to get above 30 minutes, T.J. Brodie and Mark Giordano also registered 35:42 and 33:32 respectively, and that was because it was the infamous “line brawl off the faceoff” game between those two teams and four players were kicked out after just two seconds of ice time for the Flames.

The record is limited to the regular season due to continuous overtime playing a factor in driving up ice time in some games during the playoffs. The current record in that regard goes to Seth Jones, as he registered 65:06 during Game 1 of the Columbus Blue Jackets' first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, the game that went to five overtimes before the Lightning would win 3-2.

Despite all the ice time, Fowler only got one assist in the game, even with the Ducks scoring three of their four goals with him on the ice. He was also on the ice for four of the five goals scored by the Coyotes.

Fowler has had his best season offensively as a Duck this season, with 10 goals, 34 assists, and 44 points in 78 games this season. It beats his previous high of 42 points that he set in 2021-22, which was also the first time he’d hit the 40-point mark since his rookie season in 2010-11.
