Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri 'progressing' toward Stanley Cup Final return

Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri could soon rejoin the Avalanche during the Stanley Cup Final.

Kardi has been out of action since June 4 after having surgery to repair a broken thumb. He suffered the injury in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final after being boarded dangerously by Edmonton Oilers' forward Evander Kane.

Officially listed as day-to-day, Kadri has yet to return to practice for the Avalanche. However, he has been skating on his own.

On Sunday, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar updated Kadri's status.

"Not sure on 'Naz's timeline yet," Bednar said. "Obviously he's progressing. He's been skating every day. He's put his stick into it. He's starting to shoot pucks now and handle the puck more, catching and releasing it, like passing and shooting. So we're hopeful we're going to see him at some point, I'm not sure if it's Game 3 or Game 4."

Kadri had an outstanding regular season for the Avalanche, posting career highs in assists (59) and points (87) while finishing fourth on the Avalanche in goals (28).

In 13 playoff games, Kadri has recorded six goals and eight assists.
