Brad Hunt might be one of the nicest guys to ever play for the Colorado Avalanche.

And now, he’s a gold medal winner.

The 34 year old defenseman, who spent the majority of the season with the Avalanche, is now a gold medal winner for the first time in his career.

Hunt picked up three assists in the tournament, helping Canada win the tournament. They defeated Germany on Sunday by a score of 5-2 to win Gold.

Although Hunt was the Captain of the Colorado Eagles, he spent most of the season in Colorado because of all the injuries they dealt with. He played just 24 games with the AHL squad, but did so well that he was named to the AHL All-Star game. In 47 games with Colorado, he picked up 10 goals, four of which came on goals. He played in Game Seven against the Kraken, but took just one shift filling in at forward.

Also playing on Team Canada was former Avalanche first round pick Justin Barron. The 21 year old, who now plays for the Montreal Canadiens, also picked up three assists in the tournament.

No other Colorado players managed to medal at the World Championships. Mikko Rantanen, fresh off 62 goals in 89 games for Colorado, failed to register a single goal in the tournament, although he did pick up nine assists. Denis Malgin picked up six points in six games playing for Team Switzerland.

Hunt has one more year on his deal with the Avalanche. Ideally, they’d like to keep him with the Eagles in a leadership role if they could, but injuries would have to allow that to happen.
