Avalanche star proving unstoppable at home

No NHL player has been more dominant this season than Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon, and nowhere is that dominance more on display than when he plays at home.

MacKinnon scored in his 30th consecutive home game with two goals and two assists in Monday night's 5-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Avalanche are now 38-20-5 and have won three of the last four games — they are also just two points back of the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars for first place in the Western Conference's Central Division.

The Avalanche are 24-6 at home while MacKinnon has 24 goals and 38 assists in home games.

MacKinnon and Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov are tied for the NHL lead with 105 points each while MacKinnon remains the odds-on favorite to win his first Hart Trophy as NHL Most Valuable Player.

He's already a seven-time All-Star and led the Avalanche to the 2022 Stanley Cup championship.

"Just feels good this year on home ice for whatever reason," MacKinnon told NHL.com after Monday's win, which was also Chicago's 22nd consecutive road loss "Obviously, getting a lot of bounces as well. I think a lot of guys are playing really well at home, and I'm getting some points."

Colorado has two more home games this week; Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings and Friday against the Minnesota Wild.
