Team USA has named their General Manager for the upcoming 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off and 2026 Olympics. It was announced on Thursday that Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin would serve in this role.

Bill Guerin Named USA General Manager

After spending some time on the sidelines since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016, the NHL and NHLPA announced that it would be hosting a scaled-down 4 Nations Face-Off in February of 2025. This international tournament will feature NHL players from Canada, the United States, Finland and Sweden. In addition, the NHL and NHLPA announced that NHL players would be returning to the Olympics in 2026 and 2030. It is the first time NHL players will be in the Olympics since 2014.

In preparation for these events, Team USA moved fairly quickly to announce Bill Guerin as its GM for both the 4 Nation Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics. Guerin is a three-time Olympian as a player for Team USA and currently serves as the GM of the Minnesota Wild. He has held that role since 2019. Guerin was also named as Team USA’s GM in 2022 but didn’t fulfill that role due to the NHL deciding to not participate that year.

Moving Forward

Guerin will have much work to do as Team USA’s General Manager for both of these events. Not to mention that he still has a Wild team needing his attention. Responsibilities will include finding and naming the coaching staff as well as picking the players for these events. The United States should have a very talented squad. Many names that are likely to be on the roster include Auston Matthews, Charlie McAvoy, the Hughes brothers, the Tkachuk brothers, Connor Hellebuyck, Kyle Connor, and Jaccob Slavin among others. But sometimes putting together the right team is more important than just picking the best players. We will see how Guerin moves forward in his responsibilities.
