Over the course of the next month, Chicago Hockey Now will be profiling every Chicago Blackhawks player from the 2022-23 season. Today, will be forward Jason Dickinson.

Jason Dickinson
Forward
Games Played: 78
(Goals – Assists – Points with Chicago): 9-21-30
Contract Status: One Year Remaining – $2.65M Cap Hit

The Short View

Talk about a value move. Dickinson records career highs in points and tied his career high in goals. Logging just under 16 minutes a game on average, the 27-year-old center did exactly what you could have hoped for on a rebuilding team: provide a veteran, professional presence while tallying career highs in doing so.

The Long View

Dickinson still has one season remaining and also snagged Vancouver’s 2024 second-round pick in the trade that brought him to Chicago. The Blackhawks wanted someone who would chip in points and play responsible hockey as a more defensive minded forward. It worked out better than they could have imagined. One of Dickinson’s best moments of the season was scoring just 13 seconds after Tyler Johnson against Seattle back in October. With the Blackhawks trailing by a goal, Johnson tied it up and Dickinson snapped one from the right circle to take the lead.

A season prior, he had just 11 points. He nearly tripled that production with the Blackhawks. Vancouver ended up dealing Riley Stillman, who the Blackhawks gave up for Dickinson, days before the trade deadline.  Oh, and he had a three-point night against his former mates, which included a goal.

The trade was a win for Chicago and Dickinson.

The Bottom Line

As the next season likely ushers in the Connor Bedard era in Chicago, Dickinson can be relied upon to help bring him along while still contributing where he can. If the Blackhawks are still seeking to sell pieces off, he would also be a reliable third or fourth line center on a team seeking depth and or that unsung playoff hero who does the right things at the right time.

Dickinson is definitely a good depth forward to have around.
