Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews shares powerful post about death of George Floyd
On Friday, San Jose Sharks winger Evander Kane asked for top-tier hockey and sports stars to speak out on social justice matters following the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.
Three-time Stanley Cup champion and Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews answered the call on Monday.
Along with sharing a video of a powerful conversation between two African-American men, Toews added a lengthy caption.
Earlier in the day, New York Islanders captain Anders Lee also addressed Floyd's death:
"I will never fully understand because the color of my skin but I have an opportunity to make a difference. I stand for anti-racism. I stand for the rights of black people in America, so we can all be equal. I stand alongside the black community through this difficult time and in the future. I stand for the justice of George Floyd and the countless others who have been killed by racism.
"Black Lives Matter."
