Blackhawks' Drake Caggiula to have hearing for check to the head of Oilers' Tyler Ennis
Drake Caggiula could be suspended by the NHL.
The Chicago Blackhawks forward will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for an illegal check to the head of Edmonton Oilers forward Tyler Ennis.
The incident occurred during the second period of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup qualifiers between the Blackhawks and Oilers on Saturday.
Caggiula was not given a penalty for the hit, and Ennis was able to finish the game. The 26-year-old has no history of being fined or suspended during his NHL career.
In 11:25 of ice time, Caggiula finished the game with four hits and one blocked shot in Chicago's 6-4 win over Edmonton.
If Caggiula is suspended, Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton will have to make a decision on who will replace him. MacKenzie Entwistle, Brandon Hagel, Philipp Kurashev, John Quenneville and Dylan Sikura all are available to play.
Game 2 between the Blackhawks and Oilers is scheduled to take place on Monday.
