The Chicago Blackhawks traded Ryan Carpenter to the Calgary Flames for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft on Monday. Frank Servalli of the Daily Faceoff first reported the news.
The 31-year-old forward scored 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and possessed a 52-percent face-off rate in 59 games for the Blackhawks, who are 21 points out of Stanley Cup Playoffs position in the Western Conference. He signed a three-year, $3 million contract with Chicago in July 2019.
Carpenter will now join a the Pacific Division-leading Flames in pursuit of his first Stanley Cup championship. He has scored 26 goals with 42 assists in 300 NHL career games for Chicago, the Vegas Golden Knights, and San Jose Sharks.
The trade gives Chicago eight picks in the 2024 NHL Draft. The Blackhawks have six of their own picks (first, second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh) and one each from the Lightning and Flames. Chicago acquired a 2024 first in the Brandon Hagel trade, while also dealing its own 2024 fourth.
