The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded defenseman Andrew Peeke for defenseman Jakub Zboril.
The Blue Jackets are also getting a 2027 third-round pick.
No salary was retained in the deal, according to TSN’s Chris Johnston.
Peeke, 25, has spent his entire NHL career to date with the Blue Jackets since getting drafted 34th overall in 2016. Peeke has struggled this season, though, spending significant time as a healthy scratch. The fifth-year NHLer has 42 points in 218 career games, highlighted by his 15-point effort during the 2021-22 season.
Before turning pro, Peeke spent three years with the University of Notre Dame, winning the Big 10 championship in 2018 and 2019. He also won bronze with USA at the 2018 World Juniors and was a key piece of USA’s World Championship effort in 2021.
Peeke will be a UFA after the 2025-26 season. He currently has an AAV of $2.75 million.
Zboril, 27, was drafted 13th overall by the Bruins in 2015. It was a surprising pick at the time, with Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor and Thomas Chabot still on the board, among others. Zboril hasn’t played in the NHL this season, instead registering nine assists in 31 games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
Zboril has one goal and 16 points in 76 games over four NHL seasons, including a career-best nine points in 42 games during the 2020-21 season. He is set to be a UFA at the end of the season while holding a cap hit of $1,137,500.
The Bruins are coming off a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at home on Thursday afternoon, moving them to 5-1-4 over the past 10 games. The club sits one point behind the Florida Panthers for first in the NHL and are set for a three-game stretch against non-playoff teams with Pittsburgh on Saturday, St. Louis on Monday and Montreal on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the Bruins acquired Pat Maroon from the Minnesota Wild and signed Parker Wotherspoon to a contract extension.
The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, are last in the Metropolitan Division with a 22-31-10 record and 54 points. Columbus will host the Nashville Predators at 12:30 PM ET on Saturday before driving to Montreal to play the Canadiens on Tuesday.
