The Boston Bruins have announced young center Matt Poitras will miss approximately five months recovering from shoulder surgery. The Bruins announced Poitras underwent a shoulder stabilization procedure on Wednesday, February 7th, by Dr Thomas Holovacs at Mass General Brigham Hospital.

Poitras burst onto the scene earlier this season, winning Bruins management over, keeping him from returning to the OHL and beginning his entry-level contract at 19 years old. Poitras has 15 points in 33 games with the Bruins this season but has been struggling and earned a demotion to the fourth line as of late. There is no doubt Poitras is talented, and if he remains on the Bruins, he will be part of the future core.

Now, the Bruins will be looking to the trade market for help, as Poitras will likely not be available to return in the playoffs either. With the recent trades of Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm, if Sweeney wants to add to the center position, he will need to think fast.
