Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman and defenseman Derek Forbort have both returned to Boston amidst their four game road trip, and are week-to-week with injuries.

Swayman suffered his injury during Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after Patrice Bergeron lost his footing while defending a drive to the net from Jake Guentzel and collided with him. He was brought into the game in relief after Linus Ullmark allowed five goals barely halfway through the game, stopping all four shots he faced in the 14:06 he was in the game for before leaving.

Swayman has struggled early on in the season, as he’s allowed 10 goals in three starts, and has an .878 save percentage. He was also in net for the Bruins only loss so far this season.

Forbort was also injured during Tuesday’s game against the Penguins, as he left the game in the first period after blocking a shot during a penalty kill. He played just nine shifts for a total of 5:03 of ice time in the game.

Forbort has been off to a solid start so far this season, with a goal and two assists for three points in 10 games. He’s also been solid defensively this year, with a 53.06% shot attempt share and 55.86% of the expected goals at 5v5 when he’s on the ice, not necessarily driving play but not hindering it either.

Mike Reilly will replace Forbort in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers, while Hampus Lindholm will take his place alongside his usual defense partner Connor Clifton. Keith Kinkaid will replace Swayman in the lineup backing up Ullmark.

It will be a couple of tough losses for the Bruins, who will look to continue their hot start without the two players. They are currently 9-1-0 to start the season, good for first in the Atlantic division and in the NHL, all without Charlie McAvoy, as well as Brad Marchand only playing two games so far this season.
