The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Jakub Zboril on waivers Wednesday.

Zboril has spent the 2023-24 season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Providence Bruins where he has tallied seven assists in 19 games. He spent the 2022-23 season with Boston, appearing in 22 games and scoring one goal and four points.

The 26-year-old was taken No. 13 overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Bruins and was one of the three first-round picks that they had. He made his NHL debut in 2018-19, appearing in two games. He found more of a full-time role with Boston in 2020-21 where he suited up for 42 games and registered nine assists and 18 penalty minutes. In 76 career games at the NHL level, Zboril has one goal and 16 points. Zboril has been plagued with injuries and has found himself being a healthy scratch for long periods of time in Boston.

In May 2022, Zboril signed a two-year, $2,275,000 million contract extension with the Bruins. The contract has an average annual value of $1,137,500 million. Zboril will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

He has primarily spent his time with Providence throughout his pro career. In 201 games, he has scored 11 goals and 53 assists for 64 points over parts of four seasons.

Zboril had spent his draft year in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Saint John Sea Dogs and registered 13 goals and 33 points in 44 games. In 2016-17, the Brno, Czechia product helped the Sea Dogs capture the Gilles-Courteau Trophy as the QMJHL Champions. He had 41 points in 50 games and tallied seven points in 16 QMJHL Playoff contests. At the 2017 Memorial Cup, he registered two assists.
