Sunday, June 23, 2024, General Manager Don Sweeney of the Boston Bruins announced the signing of defenseman Ian Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000 through the 24-25 season.

Mitchell is a depth defenseman for the Bruins, he appeared in 13 games for Boston in the 23-24 season with two assists, a plus-six rating, and ten penalty minutes. Mitchell has played 95 NHL games in parts of 4 seasons in his career with 4 goals, 14 assists, 18 points, and a minus-15 rating. Mitchell spent most of the 23-24 season in Providence, he played in 42 games with the Bruins AHL affiliate with six goals and 18 assists for a total of 24 points, and a plus-ten rating.

The St. Albert, Alberta native got drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2nd round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft with the 57th overall pick after playing three years at the University of Denver. The 25-year-old right-shot defenseman was acquired by the Bruins with Alec Regula in exchange for Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on June 26, 2023.
