The Bakersfield Condors have announced that forward Brad Malone will be retiring at the end of the 2023-24 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Oilers Nation director Zach Laing was the first to report on the retirement.

The 34-year-old captain has tallied 17 points and 89 penalty minutes in 48 games this season with the Condors.

Malone is the longest-serving captain in Condors’ franchise history, having served as team captain for the last four years. Throughout his seven seasons in Bakersfield, Malone has registered 187 points in 315 games. Malone also spent time with the Lake Erie Monsters and Hershey Bears. In 551 AHL games, he tallied 104 goals and 290 points.

Malone has also had reps with the Edmonton Oilers and most recently appeared in 10 games with the club during the 2022-23 season. He scored one goal and one assist in eight games during his tenure with Edmonton in 2021-22.

The Miramichi, New Brunswick product was originally selected No. 105 overall in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Malone spent four seasons with the University of North Dakota in the NCAA before turning pro and making his NHL debut during the 2011-12 season. Malone spent three years in Colorado before going to Carolina in 2014-15 and finding a full-time role with the Hurricanes for two seasons. In 217 NHL games, Malone tallied 14 goals, 32 points and 206 penalty minutes over parts of nine seasons with the Avalanche, Hurricanes and Oilers.

Bakersfield will likely face off against the Ontario Reign in the first round of the 2024 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs.
