Brodie Ziemer is a talented right-winger who is having a very good season as we draw closer to the 2024 NHL Draft. On the U18 team, he’s currently fifth in scoring and third in goals. I’m not sure most thought he would be that kind of goal scorer on a talented team of scorers. Sure, he had 49 goals twice at Shattuck St. Mary’s, but there was no guarantee that would translate.

Ziemer has good speed. It’s not pretty, but he can get past defenders, and that’s when his stick skills shine. They’re not notch. He can make tricky passes or get off a quick wrist shot. According to InStat, he is getting 67% of his shots on goal. That’s incredible, and he’s making them count.

“We are here to win a gold medal. That’s the ultimate goal. Just coming to the rink every day with that mentality and trying to become better every day.”

Another facet of his game is drawing penalties. He’s drawn four more than he’s given. That helps a team win. He is the captain of the u18 team and leadership is yet another big part of his makeup as a hockey player.

Defenseman Cole Hutson has added to his point totals this year for sure.

“It’s crazy to see the plays he makes. To see that little who and how he seems it in there. You see it every day at practice,” Ziemer noted. “Teams have to respect him and his shot and his playmaking and that makes my life a little bit easier.”

His coach moves players around and sometimes he’s on the top line and sometimes the second. It does prepare players to be more adaptable so when he goes to Minnesota, as an example, he will be ready for anything.

“I try and play the same game every night. I try to be consistent. I want to play the same game every night. I try and be as consistent as I can, no matter who I am with,” Ziemer stated with conviction. “Adaptability is one of my strongest suits. Being able to play up and down the lineup. Power play and penalty kill.“

Ziemer will look forward to the draft when he allows himself to do so.

“I think we plan on going, yeah,” Ziemer downplayed. “I try not to worry about it too much. I don’t let it affect me that much.”

His summer training has given him a boost this season.

“I did GVM.  We do it here at USA. I did it with Brian Gallivan and Joe Maloney. I did it back in Minnesota. Through an app. That was really big for me,” Ziemer revealed. “It helped with my stride and power, and I did some skating lessons too.”

I think Ziemer is a first-round talent who might slip into the second round.
