Brad Marchand has been offered an in-person hearing via Zoom for his hit on Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday.

The incident happened in the dying seconds of Tuesday night’s game between the Bruins and Penguins in Boston. With the Penguins up by two goals, Jarry came up with a big save as the Bruins crowded the net. After Jarry covered the puck and the referee blew the whistle, Marchand reached in to punch Jarry in the head.

Marchand was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing along with a five-minute match penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct that ultimately got him booted from the game.

Given the hearing is in person, the DoPS has the ability to hand Marchand a suspension worth six games or more.

Marchand has been suspended seven times over the course of his NHL career, missing a total of 22 games and forfeiting $971,397 in salary. He was suspended for three games earlier this season for a slew-foot on Vancouver Canucks defender Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Former NHL referee Tim Peel suggested here at Daily Faceoff that Marchand would wind up getting another three-game suspension.

The Bruins sit eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 26-15-3 record, and Marchand leads the team with 49 points in 39 games.
