Bruins defenseman John Moore out for season after undergoing hip surgery

Boston Bruins defenseman John Moore will miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season after undergoing a hip arthroscopy and labral repair on March 22, the team announced Saturday.

The 30-year-old is expected to be sidelined for five-to-six months, meaning he won't be eligible to return until August or September if everything goes according to plan.

Moore appeared in five games for the Bruins this season, notching two assists with a minus-three rating. In 90 games across three seasons in Boston, the Illinois native has six goals and 12 assists.

The Bruins signed Moore to a five-year, $13.75 million contract in July 2018. He carries a cap hit of $2.75 million annually and won't become a free agent until after the 2022-23 campaign.

Boston has dealt with several injuries on defense this season. Jeremy Lauzon hasn't played since Feb. 21 after fracturing his hand against the Philadelphia Flyers. Kevan Miller is out dealing with a knee issue. Brandon Carlo is dealing with a head injury and Jarred Tinordi was recently added to the injury report with an upper-body injury.

Luckily, Lauzon is "close" to returning, according to Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy and Carlo has resumed skating.
