Sunday’s waiver wire featured a couple of players, as the Boston Bruins have waived center Oskar Steen and the Detroit Red Wings have waived winger Matt Luff.

Steen, 25, finds himself on the waiver wire as the Bruins look to make some room on their roster, which was currently at the 23-man limit. With no players on injured reserve due to injuries, the Bruins will likely be calling up another player from the AHL to help out the team.

This season saw Steen play the most NHL games he’s ever played in a season with 34, although he’s only scored one goal on the year. That’s something he’s consistently struggled with throughout his career, with just 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in 60 career NHL games. Steen also has 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in 5 games with the Providence Bruins in the AHL this season.

Luff, 26, is being sent down to the minors after coming off of IR. He had suffered an injury back in training camp, and has yet to play a game this season. Whether this is for the purpose of giving him some time in the AHL to get reacclimated to the game before the Red Wings call him back up, or they are making the move because they don’t see a fit for Luff on the roster right now has yet to be known.

Luff spent a decent chunk of time with the Red Wings last season, with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 19 games. That seems to fall around his recent production at the NHL level, as he has yet to recreate what he managed to do in his rookie season in 2018-19 with the Los Angeles Kings, where he had 8 goals and 11 assists in 33 games. He also played 28 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL in 2022-23, where he had 8 goals and 17 assists for 25 points.
