Bruins will feature virtual fan chants, booing during 2020 NHL playoffs

The NHL season is set to begin on Aug. 1 with the qualifying round, so, naturally, the Boston Bruins are throwing together something special for the season resume.

Although fans won't have the opportunity to cheer on the B's from the stands, they'll have the opportunity to do so virtually, it appears.

The Bruins sent an email to season ticket holders asking fans to submit virtual cheers, chants, celebrations and booing to be featured in playoff games, according to SB Nation's Stanley Cup of Chowder.

This idea is very similar to what Bundesliga and the English Premier League have done to pump in crowd noise while no fans are currently allowed to attend matches. It's more than likely that all teams request similar footage from their fans as well.

As for what Boston is requesting, here's the list via Stanley Cup of Chowder:

  • 30 seconds of chanting AND clapping “Let’s Go Bruins!”
  • 30 seconds of just chanting “Let’s Go Bruins!”
  • Video of a fan saying “WOOOOOO!”
  • Video of a fan saying “TUUUUUUUUKKKKKKK”
  • 30 seconds of a fan dancing to "Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys
  • 30 seconds of reacting to a goal being scored
  • 30 seconds of chanting “We Want the Cup!”
  • 30 seconds of booing/reacting to a bad call on the ice

The team also asked fans not to use any vile language or hand gestures in the videos as they'll be aired across various platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook and television.

Boston, who has some of the best odds to win the Stanley Cup, will be playing for seeding as they secured a playoff spot and won the President's Trophy as the league's best team.

Players will resume training camps on July 13 and travel to their scheduled hub cities on July 26.
