The Buffalo Sabres announced that they would be retiring former goaltender Ryan Miller’s jersey number next season.

Ryan Miller spent parts of 11 seasons with the Sabres, including four playoff appearances with the franchise. He leads the franchise in wins with 284 and games played for a goalie with 540, as well as most wins in a season with 41. He also ranks third in the franchise in goals against average and save percentage (minimum 100 games played), sitting behind Dominik Hasek and Martin Biron with a 2.60 goals against average, and behind Hasek and Robin Lehner with a .916 save percentage. He also sits behind Hasek for second in franchise shutouts with 28.

After 11 seasons in Buffalo, Miller was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 2014 at the trade deadline, before the team was eliminated in the first round. He then played for the Vancouver Canucks for three seasons and the Anaheim Ducks for four seasons before retiring at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Miller becomes the eighth player to have their number retired by the Sabres in their 52 year history. He’s the second goalie to have their number retired after Hasek, and he also joins forwards Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, Rene Robert, Pat LaFontaine, Danny Gare, and defenseman Tim Horton.
