It’s the off-season, and what better time to pour over each NHL club’s prospect bases? Over at The Athletic, their prospect guru Scott Wheeler has been doing his annual deep dives into each team’s crop of young players. He recently published his list of the 10 best NHL-drafted goalie prospects.

Among that list? Calgary Flames prospect Dustin Wolf, the reigning two-time American Hockey League goaltender of the year.

Wolf was listed as the fourth-best drafted goaltending prospect by Wheeler.

The fourth-from-last player selected in the 2019 NHL Draft, Wolf has had a remarkable past four seasons. He was the WHL’s goaltender of the year in 2019-20 and 2020-21, though due to the COVID-19 pandemic he wasn’t able to chase playoff success (and pandemic reductions in the regular season schedules robbed him of a chance to challenge the WHL’s all-time records for wins, shutouts and goals against average.)

Moving into the pro ranks, Wolf was the AHL’s goaltender of the year in 2021-22 and 2022-23, and was named the AHL’s most valuable player in 2022-23 as well. In short: he’s had immense success every season since being drafted, and he made his NHL debut (alongside Matt Coronato) in the Flames’ regular season finale in 2022-23, capturing his first NHL victory.

2021 seventh-round selection Arsenii Sergeev, currently entering his sophomore season at the University of Connecticut, was named an honourable mention on Wheeler’s list.

Head on over to The Athletic to check out Wheeler’s full breakdown of the top 10 drafted goaltenders.
