The Calgary Flames’ season has concluded. But the Calgary Wranglers, their top minor league affiliate, have two more games on the docket. As the Saddledome emptied following the Flames’ win over San Jose, the club announced that they’ve assigned goaltender Dustin Wolf, defenceman Ilya Solovyov and forwards Matt Coronato and Adam Klapka to the Wranglers.
The quartet were the only Flames players eligible to be returned to the Wranglers for the remainder of their regular season and playoffs.
Wolf, 23, had been up with the NHL club since Mar. 12, being summoned from the minors due to an injury to Jacob Markstrom, and then he stuck around after Dan Vladar was shut down for the season to undergo hip surgery. The Flames’ seventh-round pick in 2019, Wolf went 7-7-1 with a 3.16 goals against average and .893 save percentage over 17 appearances with the NHL club this season. In 35 AHL appearances this season, Wolf went 20-11-3 with a 2.43 goals against average and .923 save percentage.
Solovyov, 23, was called up by the Flames back on Apr. 8. A seventh-round pick in 2020, Solovyov played 10 games with the Flames this season and had three assists. In 50 games with the Wranglers, he has five goals and 14 points.
Coronato, 21, was called up by the Flames on Mar. 4. The club’s first-round pick in 2021, Coronato suited up for 34 goals this season and posted three goals and nine points overall. In 40 games with the Wranglers, Coronato posted 15 goals and 42 points.
Klapka, 23, was called up to the big club on Apr. 15. Signed as a free agent out of European in the 2022 off-season, he played six NHL games this season and had a goal and a fight. In 64 games with the Wranglers, Klapka has 21 goals and 45 points.
The Wranglers will finish off their regular season with a pair of games with the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday and Saturday in Abbotsford. They’ve qualified for the Calder Cup playoffs, and will likely begin their opening round series next weekend (against either the Tucson Roadrunners or Ontario Reign). Adding this quartet will really bolster the Wranglers roster heading into the post-season.
