Canadiens captain Shea Weber fined $5K for cross-checking Maple Leafs' Wayne Simmonds

Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds during Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Saturday night, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Sunday.

Weber caught Simmonds up high with a cross-check with about 10 minutes remaining in the second period. The Maple Leafs were on the power play, and Weber tried to clear Simmonds from out in front of the net.

Saturday's contest was Weber's second game back from an upper-body injury. He hadn't played since April 28 prior to the playoffs.

Toronto won Game 2 5-1 to tie up the series 1-1. Game 3 between the two sides is set for Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
