Colin White is expected to be on the ice when the Pittsburgh Penguins face Montreal this evening at PPG Paints Arena.

It will not, however, be as a member of the Penguins, because the Canadiens claimed him off waivers today.

White, who can play center or wing, did not have a goal or assist in 11 games with the Penguins this season. He attended their training camp on a professional tryout agreement and earned a two-way contract.

After claiming White, Montreal put forward Brandon Gignac on waivers, with the intent of assigning him to its farm team in Laval after he is not claimed by 2 p.m. Friday.

With White’s departure, the Penguins have 48 players under NHL contracts. That’s two below the maximum allowed.
