Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the team announced on Twitter on Thursday.

Guhle wasn’t at practice on Thursday. He left Tuesday’s game vs. the Minnesota Wild and did not return. His last shift of the game came midway through the second period. While it’s unclear, he may have injured his hand or wrist in a collision into the boards.

The Wild won the game 5-2.

Last season was Guhle’s rookie season, where he scored four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 44 games. His 2022-23 campaign ended early after suffering a high-ankle sprain in March. He averaged over 20 minutes of ice time during the season, along with 77 blocked shots and 84 hits.

Guhle was drafted 16th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Through five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) between the Prince Albert Raiders and the Edmonton Oil Kings, he scored 22 goals and 78 assists for 100 points in 181 games.

After being traded to the Oil Kings in December 2021, he helped lead the team to a WHL Chynoweth Cup, the second of his career. He was named the WHL Playoff Most Valuable Player after the series.

He played for Team Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Atlanta, winning a silver medal.
