Canadiens goalie Carey Price remains out indefinitely

It looks like Carey Price's return to the ice won't happen as soon as many hoped.

The veteran Montreal Canadiens goaltender is reportedly re-entering rehab for his injured knee and, due to the uncertain timeline, has been ruled out indefinitely from playing.

The 34-year netminder recently met with doctors following a long sabbatical that included a stint in the NHL's player assistance program due to a substance abuse problem. Price started practicing with the team earlier in the season following his stay at a treatment facility, although he admitted at the time he wasn't sure when he would be in a game-day lineup again.

"I am working through years of neglecting my own mental health which will take some time to repair; all I can do is take it day by day. With that comes some uncertainty with when I will return to play," Price saidĀ back in November.

Price last played for Montreal in the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs, posting a .924 save percentage in 22 postseason games. The Canadiens made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The British Columbia native holds the record for most games played by a Habs goaltender (707) and most wins (360). He is ranked third all time among Habs goalies with 49 shutouts.
