Canadiens goaltender Carey Price in concussion protocol, out at least a week

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price is set to miss at least the next four games while he's in the league's concussion protocol.

According to the NHL's official website, Price suffered the setback in the first period of Monday's 4-1 loss at the Edmonton Oilers. Jake Allen replaced Price in the second period of the contest, and Price did not practice Tuesday.

"It's unfortunate for Carey, but that's what I'm here for," Allen told reporters. "I'm here to step up when guys go down. That's my job. So I've got to always be ready."

It's another brutal blow for Price, who recently missed six games with a lower-body injury but returned to the ice for Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The 33-year-old holds a 12-7-5 record and a .901 save percentage through 25 games this season.

Ahead of Tuesday's action, Montreal sat fourth in the NHL North standings with 47 points, six points ahead of the Calgary Flames. The top four teams from each division qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Per the club's timeline, Price will be sidelined for Wednesday's game at the Oilers and three straight matchups versus Calgary but potentially could play against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 28.
