Montreal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson suffered a lower-body injury late in Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning and will not travel with the team to Boston, the club announced on Twitter.

Anderson had to be helped off the ice late in the third period against the Lightning after colliding with Mikhail Sergachev while attempting to score an empty-net goal.

The 28-year-old winger slid along the ice before colliding leg-first with the right goal post. Although neither a penalty nor an automatic goal was assessed on the play, the Canadiens held on to win by a 3–2 score.

The Canadiens said Anderson will undergo more tests on Wednesday, one day before they take on the Bruins at TD Garden. They’ll be back at home on Saturday to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Anderson has 21 goals and 32 points in 69 games with the Canadiens this season. Montreal acquired Anderson from the Blue Jackets in 2020 in exchange for forward Max Domi and a third-round draft pick.

The Blue Jackets originally selected Anderson in the fourth round (No. 95 overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. The Burlington, Ont. product made his NHL debut with the club in the 2014–15 season and emerged as a 27-goal scorer in 2018–19.

Through 457 career games over parts of nine seasons with the Canadiens and Blue Jackets, Anderson has collected 122 goals and 203 points. He’s added eight goals and 14 points in 43 career playoff contests.

The Canadiens currently rank eighth in the Atlantic Division with a 28–37–6 record through 71 games this season.
