The National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety announced that Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle will have a hearing today for slashing Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konency during Thursday night’s 4-1 victory over the Flyers.

The incident occurred when Guhle was hit hard by Konency in the corner, as Guhle went off to the bench he retaliated and slashed Konecny from the Canadiens bench.

Flyers veteran Garnet Hathaway spoke on the incident during the post-game press conference, “ The officials told us they didn’t see anything, but I feel like the league is going to review the sequence,” Hathaway said.

Guhle has registered six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in 68 games this season with the Habs, he has racked up 112 hits which ranks him fourth among Habs skaters and leads all Habs skaters with 177 blocked shots.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta product was initially drafted No. 16 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by Montreal and is currently in his second season with the Habs. He has collected 39 points in 110 career NHL games. Prior to joining Montreal, he had a good junior hockey tenure with the Prince Albert Raiders and Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League (WHL). During the 2021-22 season, he was named captain of the Raiders and at the WHL trade deadline was dealt to the Oil Kings where he would capture his second WHL Championship and recorded eight goals and 16 points in 19 WHL Playoff contests.

Montreal could be without Guhle as they get ready to face off against Jake Guentzel and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Habs currently sit eighth in the Atlantic Division with a 28-31-12 record and 68 points through 72 games. According to Daily Faceoff’s draft lottery odds tracker, Montreal sits sixth with a 7.6% chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick at the 2024 NHL Draft.
