Tuesday night felt like a throwback to earlier in the season as we saw 11 goals scored in this game and the team fought back late to force overtime.
Ultimately, the Vancouver Canucks fell to the St. Louis Blues by a score of 6-5 on an overtime-winning goal from Jakub Vrana.
The Canucks were in this game despite struggling to clear the puck out of their own zone throughout the contest. The worst giveaway of the night may have been the Guillaume Brisebois pass attempt in the first period. Brisebois looked to get the puck to J.T. Miller across the blue line but was picked off by Alexei Torpchenko.
Out of the positives, the Canucks saw multi-goal nights from Andrei Kuzmenko and Quinn Hughes. Brock Boeser was the other goal scorer in the game as the Canucks were able to scratch and claw themselves into getting one point out of this game.
Another positive was the Canucks’ bounce-back from a first period that saw many errors in their own end. the team really began to push back at the midway point of the second period and seemingly took control of the game after being scored against three consecutive times in the second period.
Thatcher Demko was challenged early and often and ended up finishing the night with 25 saves on 31 shots against.
Some interesting notes from the stats include Quinn Hughes picking up two goals and an assist on the night. He led the Canucks in ice time with 28:13 on the night.
Brock Boeser picked up three points in the game, including a goal and two primary assists.
Jack Studnicka and Sheldon Dries were the only two players under 10 minutes in the game and we wonder if Aidan McDonough may find his way back into the lineup sooner rather than later.
It was a tough night for Guillaume Brisebois, who was on the ice for three goals against.
On the other end of the goals spectrum, Kuzmenko was on the ice for four goals for and zero goals against.
Tyler Myers and Dakota Joshua had good games when it came to control of expected goals.
Joshua was given an opportunity to skate on Elias Pettersson’s line and Joshua looked like he fit right in. He drew a penalty late in the first period that helped the Canucks tie things up after 20 minutes and showed his head coach Rick Tocchet that he can be consistent for a night. Tocchet is looking for more from Joshua and on Tuesday night, he got exactly that.
