Following the Vancouver Canucks' 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, general manager Patrik Allvin announced that forward Ilya Mikheyev will be shut down for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury that he suffered during preseason. It is the same injury that caused him to be placed on injured reserve to start the season. He will undergo surgery next week, and Allvin noted that he will be back for the start of training camp.

Mikheyev logged 17:09 of ice time and picked up one goal, which earned him his 100th career National Hockey League (NHL) point. This season, he has registered 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) in 46 games. He signed a four-year, $19 million contract with the Canucks in the offseason, his contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $4.75 million. The contract also holds a modified no-trade clause (M-NTC).

The 28-year-old came over to the NHL after a successful three-year campaign with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). In 2019, he signed an entry-level contract (ELC) with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in his rookie campaign, he registered 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 39 games. He earned himself a contract extension, and the Maple Leafs signed him to a two-year, $3.29 million deal. Last season, he recorded a career-high 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in 53 games. He followed that up with four points (two goals, two assists) in seven playoff games.

Allvin also noted that goaltender Thatcher Demko is expected to miss another three weeks with a lower-body injury. Demko should begin skating again with the team following the All-Star break.
