Vancouver Canucks center Jason Dickinson Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Jason Dickinson and a 2024 second-round draft choice to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Riley Stillman, the club announced Friday.

Dickinson, 27, scored five goals and 11 points in 62 games with the Canucks during the 2021–22 regular season. The 6’2″ center is signed through 2024 at a $2.625 million annual cap hit.

Stillman, 24, is the son of longtime NHL forward Cory Stillman and is signed through 2024 at an AAV of $1.35 million. He’s a 6’1″, 196-lb. left-handed defender who scored 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and averaged 15:04 in 52 games with the Blackhawks last season.

The Canucks originally acquired Dickinson from the Dallas Stars in July 2021 in exchange for a third-round pick at that year’s draft. Then-GM Jim Benning subsequently signed Dickinson to a three-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration.

With Benning out and the Jim Rutherford/Patrik Allvin management combo in, Vancouver saw fit to move Dickinson’s contract — and paid the necessary price to do so. In 283 career games with Dallas and Vancouver, Dickinson has scored 30 goals and 74 points.

Stillman, like Dickinson, is now on his third NHL organization since 2020. The Florida Panthers originally drafted Stillman back in 2016 and traded him to Chicago in April 2021 as part of a deal that helped the Cats land Lucas Carlsson.
