It took a mere 15 seconds for the Washington Capitals to fall to the Florida Panthers in overtime Wednesday.

Panthers center Aleksander Barkov pushed the puck up to Sam Reinhart, who outpaced the Capitals’ defense and pushed the puck past Capitals goalie Darcy Kuemper to secure the 4-3 victory.

How did Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery see that play shake out?

“Kuzy out of position. He chased down ice, and then just lost the footrace,” Carbery said. “If you’re gonna chase down ice, you just can’t get beat and he got beat.”

It was a tough break for Kuznetsov, who had missed the previous two days of practice with an illness. The 31-year-old center’s status was up in the air until game time.

Through 11 games this season, Kuznetsov is tied for fifth on the team with five points. His one goal, however, has him tied for seventh-place in scoring with John Carlson and Matthew Phillips.
