The San Jose Sharks have recalled Magnus Chrona.

This appears to be in response to Kaapo Kahkonen getting run, albeit accidentally, by Andrei Kuzmenko in the second period of last night’s 10-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

Kahkonen would go to the locker room after this apparent head contact, though he returned to take a seat on the bench for the rest of the game. MacKenzie Blackwood would mop up.

“A little sore today,” San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn reported about Kahkonen’s condition after today’s practice. “I talked to him before he saw the trainer.”

At that point, Quinn had no further update about Kahkonen’s status, but didn’t rule him out for tomorrow night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

We can rule Kahkonen out now. We’ll find out tomorrow how long he’s out.

This will be Chrona’s first taste of the NHL. The University of Denver product, who the San Jose Sharks signed last spring, is 0-3-1 with an .871 Save early in his pro debut season with the San Jose Barracuda.

The 6-foot-6 netminder was in Calgary today, where he stopped 34 of 35 shots in the Cuda’s 1-0 loss to the Calgary Wranglers. The Barracuda play again on Sunday in Calgary, and are likely to call up a Wichita Thunder keeper to back up Georgi Romanov.

The 23-year-old is expected to back up Blackwood tomorrow night.
