The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that they have extended center Jack Roslovic to a two year contract with a $4 million cap hit.

Roslovic was in the final year of his two year contract with a $1,838,362 cap hit, and was a pending restricted free agent. He originally signed the deal with the Blue Jackets after they acquired him along with winger Patrik Laine from the Winnipeg Jets for Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Jets traded Roslovic due to him requesting a trade, and he was holding out as an RFA as a result. His new extension will take him to unrestricted free agency when it expires in 2024.

Roslovic took a step back after a strong start to his Blue Jackets’ career, but was still solid with 22 goals and 45 points in 81 games this season. He has 34 goals and 79 points in 129 games with Columbus.

The Blue Jackets finished the season with a 37-38-7 record, good for sixth in the Metropolitan Division, although they were 19 points removed from a playoff spot. They’re projected to have just under $23 million in cap space after the Roslovic extension, with only Laine and Adam Boqvist as big name RFAs needing an extension. Columbus also has the sixth and 12th pick in the upcoming 2022 NHL Entry Draft, the 12th being their own while the sixth comes from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the Seth Jones trade in 2021.
