In a recent interview, Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness was clear in his thinking. When asked about the young hockey phenom Chicago Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard, he had nothing but admiration. In his mind, the 2023 first-overall pick is amazing.

Bowness couldn’t help but express his awe at Bedard’s remarkable talent. In doing so, he highlighted the young player’s poise, skill, and speed on the ice.

Connor Bedard Has a High Hockey IQ and Can Read the Game

Bowness didn’t mince words when praising Bedard. He emphasized that the Blackhawks rookie’s ability to read the game and execute plays with precision is truly remarkable. Even more remarkable is the young players’ age. He won’t be 19 years old until July.

Bowness noted Bedard’s exceptional vision and skill level, which immediately caught his eye as a coach. Bowness also believed it should catch the eye of anyone watching him play.

For Bowness, Bedard is more than just a hockey prodigy. He’s also a player who brings excitement and anticipation every time he steps onto the ice. When he enters the ice, people watch. Bowness went as far as to say that Bedard is “worth the price of admission.” For him – especially as a coach – Bedard has the kind of electrifying impact that few young stars have had at the NHL level.

A Lot of Expectations Have Been Placed on Bedard, He’s Handling Them Well

There is immense pressure and many expectations that come with being a top draft pick. Yet, Bedard has not only lived up to the hype but he has exceeded it in many ways. Bowness commended Bedard’s competitive spirit and hockey IQ, highlighting his love for the game and his willingness to compete at the highest level.

Sadly, right now Bedard is out with an injury. However, when he returns, he should continue to make waves in the NHL. He surely has exceptional talent and a passion for the game. For these reasons, fans can expect to witness greatness whenever he takes to the ice.

Bedard’s combination of skill, speed, and hockey smarts make him a player to watch for seasons to come. According to Winnipeg Jets’ coach Rick Bowness, Bedard will be a player to watch for years to come.
