The Arizona Coyotes have made the highly-anticipated recall that fans have been hoping for as the team’s 2023-24 season is coming to a close.

Via a press release, the ‘Yotes recalled forward Josh Doan from the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL).

“Arizona Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong announced today that the Coyotes have recalled forward Josh Doan from the Tucson Roadrunners, the club’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate,” the press release said.

If the Doan name sounds familiar, it’s supposed to since his dad happens to be Coyotes legend, Shane Doan.

Josh, 22, was born in Scottsdale and played youth hockey for multiple Jr. Coyotes AAA travel teams at Ice Den Scottsdale.

Then in 2019, he made a step up in his hockey career path by joining the Chicago Steel (USHL).

Because of an impressive showing while on the Steel for two seasons (2019-2021), Josh was a second-round (37th overall) pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Coyotes. Shane was a first-round (seventh overall) selection in 1995 by the Winnipeg Jets before the franchise relocated to Arizona.

Josh would return to the Valley and played almost two seasons with ASU, where he became the team captain.

Before the end of his sophomore year, however, he would turn pro and go to Tucson. So far as a Roadrunner, Doan has posted 26 goals, 20 assists and 46 points through 62 AHL games.

With this recall, Josh will be the first Coyotes player from Arizona who has been born, raised and played youth hockey in the state.

The ‘Yotes will face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday at 7 p.m. PT.
