The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Matias Maccelli to a three-year contract extension, PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reported Sunday afternoon.

Maccelli, 22, collected 11 goals and 49 points in 64 games with the Coyotes during the 2022–23 regular season. The Turku, Finland product finished fourth in balloting for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.

ESPN’s Kevin Weekes was the first to report that the two sides were nearing an agreement on Saturday evening. Maccelli’s new contract runs through the end of the 2025–26 season.

According to Morgan, Maccelli’s contract carries a $3.425M average annual value. He’ll be paid $3M in 2023–24, $3.025M in 2024–25, and $4.25M in 2025–26.

When Maccelli’s contract expires in 2026, he’ll be 25 — two years away from unrestricted free agency — and eligible to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. He’ll be due a one-year qualifying offer worth $4.11M.

The Coyotes originally selected Maccelli in the fourth round (No. 98 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The 5-foot-11 winger, who shoots left, went undrafted in 2018 before being picked by Arizona the following year.

Maccelli spent his first two seasons as a Coyotes prospect with Ilves Tampere in the Finnish Liiga, collecting 28 goals and 69 points in 94 games before shifting to North America in time for the 2021–22 season.

After arriving stateside, Maccelli recorded 14 goals and 57 points in 47 games with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners in 2021–22. He also appeared in his first 23 NHL games with the Coyotes, racking up six points (one goal, five assists).

The Maccelli signing is the latest in a long line of off-season transactions for the Coyotes, who agreed to terms with RFA goaltender Ivan Prosvetov earlier on Sunday. Arizona still has two RFA forwards left to deal with this summer in Jack McBain and Jan Jenik.
