In a blow to the Montreal Canadiens, defenseman David Savard has been ruled out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury, the team announced. The injury occurred during a recent game, forcing Savard to leave the ice, leaving fans and teammates concerned about his condition. The exact nature of the injury remains undisclosed, leaving many speculating about the severity of the setback.

It could have happened during an insane series in the game where he blocked multiple shots and lost a skate blade. The video of his fearlessness has gone viral on social media.

In response to Savard’s absence, the Canadiens have called up defenseman Gustav Lindstrom from AHL Laval on an emergency basis. Lindstrom’s promotion highlights the team’s need for defensive support in the wake of Savard’s injury.

Savard’s absence will undoubtedly be felt on the ice. Known for his tenacity and resilience, he showcased his grit in a recent penalty kill shift, blocking shots and making crucial plays despite losing his hockey stick and skate blade. His heroic efforts in that game not only demonstrated his dedication but also proved instrumental in the Canadiens’ defensive maneuvers. Head coach Martin St. Louis said, “I feel like (Savard) does it every night.” He adds, “He doesn’t lose his blade like that every night. Savvy’s a hockey player. There’s a big difference between someone who plays hockey and a hockey player, and Savvy’s showing that game in and game out that he’s a hockey player. You can’t have too many of those guys. That’s what he does.”

The Injuries Keep Adding Up for Canadiens

Despite Savard’s setback, the Canadiens remain optimistic about their prospects, relying on the depth of their roster to fill the void left by the injured defenseman. That said, having lost Kirby Dach, Kaiden Guhle, and others early into the season, the setbacks are starting to add up.

As fans eagerly await updates on Savard’s recovery, the team rallies behind their remaining players, including the newly called-up Lindstrom, as they prepare for upcoming challenges on the ice. As part of the Frozen Frenzy on Tuesday, the Habs will take on the New Jersey Devils.
