Denver junior defenseman Sean Behrens is the latest Pioneer to turn pro. The Barrington, Illinois, native signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, which will begin in the 2024–25 season.

Behrens, 21, will report to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles on an amateur tryout (ATO) contract for the remainder of this season. He was originally drafted by the Avalanche in the second round, 61st overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The left-shot blueliner finished with career-highs in goals (4), assists (27), points (31), and plus-minus rating (25) during the 2023–24 campaign.

As a junior, Behrens earned NCHC Best Defensive Defenseman honors and helped the Pioneers win their 10th National Championship. During his tenure with DU, the young defenseman was part of two National Championship-winning clubs.
