Depleted Penguins without All-Star goalie Tristan Jarry for Game 6 vs. Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins hold a 3-2 first-round playoff series lead over the New York Rangers heading into Friday's Game 6 held on their home ice of PPG Paints Arena but nevertheless will be up against it as they attempt to avoid a Game 7 on Sunday that would take place in New York.

Per Wes Crosby of the NHL's website, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that All-Star starting goalie Tristan Jarry won't play at all on Friday due to the reported broken right foot that's kept him out of action for nearly one entire month. Jarry, who last played on April 14, was  "making significant progress" in his recovery as of Thursday, and there were teases he could potentially serve as the backup on Friday evening.

Instead, third-choice option Louis Domingue will continue to take the place of Casey DeSmith. DeSmith was injured in the second overtime period of the series' opening game and underwent season-ending core muscle surgery last Friday.

Domingue, 30, logged only two NHL regular-season starts in 2021-22 before he was called into action in Game 1. Over the last four contests, which the Penguins split, he's allowed 15 goals.

The Penguins recalled Alex D'Orio from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League last week, and he will continue to be Domingue's backup through Friday's game.

Pittsburgh will also be without superstar captain Sidney Crosby for at least Game 6 due to the unspecified upper-body injury he suffered on Wednesday.
