The New Jersey Devils activated forward Brian Halonen off the injured, non-roster list and assigned him to the Utica Comets (American Hockey League), the team announced on Saturday.

The 24-year-old forward was injured during training camp, suffering a lower-body injury. Halonen didn’t register a point in one preseason game and accrued five penalty minutes.

Halonen is entering his second full season with the Comets after joining the team toward the end of the 2021-22 season.

The product of Michigan Tech’s NCAA hockey team appeared in 57 games with Utica during the 2022-23 season, posting 17 goals and 30 points. Halonen’s 30 points last season tied him for eighth overall on the Comets with Andreas Johnsson. He also chipped in a goal, an assist, and 17 penalty minutes in six postseason games.

Halonen was one of multiple Devils who began the regular season on the injured, non-roster list. Those names include Nolan Foote and the recently activated Nico Daws.

Halonen joins a sputtering Comets group that ranks 29th overall in the AHL with a 10-13-3 record. They play again tonight against the Rochester Americans following last night’s 5-2 loss in Akira Schmid’s return to the AHL.
