Jack Hughes will have to wait before rejoining the New Jersey Devils after the All-Star break.

The Devils announced on Sunday that Hughes has been placed into COVID-19 protocol after returning from the All-Star Weekend festivities in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Hughes, who was making his first career NHL All-Star appearance, is in the midst of the best season of his brief career. He has 12 goals and 27 points through 28 games this season, just four points shy of his career-high of 31 points set in 2021.

The Devils own a 15-25-5 record, putting them well out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference.

They’re scheduled to hit the road to play the Ottawa Senators on Monday, the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, and the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, so Hughes will miss, at the very least, those first two games in Canada.
