New Jersey Devils forward Kurtis MacDermid took an awkward spill into the boards on March 23rd while facing the Ottawa Senators.

MacDermid’s injury occurred after he dropped the mitts with Senators forward Mark Kastelic just minutes into the first period. Despite the collision with the boards, the Devils enforcer returned to the game after visiting the locker room and getting checked out for an injury. However, MacDermid has been scratched and had not participated in team practice since the tilt with the Senators and was considered “day-to-day.”

Until yesterday.

MacDermid was first on the ice on Monday morning, testing out his undisclosed lower-body injury. He also then participated in line rushes, rotating in with Chris Tierney on fourth-line duties, as well as practicing on the penalty kill.

As a result, it appears the anticipated MacDermid vs. Matt Rempe throwdown is back on for Wednesday when the Devils return to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers.

The last time the Hudson River rivals met, it was anticipated that Rempe would answer the bell for his hit on Nathan Bastian on Feb. 22nd. However, Rempe was ejected from the tilt after an illegal check to Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler which postponed the inevitable on-ice tilt and left Kurtis MacDermid quite livid.

The Devils first play the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice on Tuesday. MacDermid could potentially draw in against the Pens on Tuesday night, however, the Devils’ enforcer is more likely to be in the lineup on Wednesday against New Jersey’s No.1 rival.

In 10 games with the Devils since he was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche, MacDermid has accrued one assist and 30 penalty minutes.
