New Jersey Devils forward Michael McLeod and defenseman Cal Foote are taking a leave of absence, the team announced on Wednesday.

According to the news release, “Michael McLeod and Cal Foote have each requested and been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The club will have no further comment at this time.”

It is unknown whether McLeod and Foote’s leave is connected to the 2022 lawsuit filed against the 2018 Hockey Canada team. Allegations are sexual assault of a young woman.

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart and Calgary Flames forward Dillon Dubé stepped away for similar reasons.

McLeod is in the midst of a strong season, stepping up in the absences of Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier on separate occasions. Through 45 games this season, McLeod’s collected 10 goals breaking his previous career high of nine in the 2020-21 season. He is seven points shy of tying his career high in points (26) with 37 games remaining in the regular season.

McLeod signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract for the 2023-24 season.

Foote, was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft. Hesigned a one-year contract with the Devils this summer worth $800K.

In four games for the Devils this season, Foote’s collected one assist. In 24 games with the AHL Utica Comets, Foote scored two goals and nine points.
