Did former Sharks star Joe Thornton sell Bay Area home?

Veteran NHL forward Joe Thornton has been trying to sell his luxurious Bay Area home for a while now but has yet to find a buyer since departing for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020 after spending 15 seasons as a figurehead for the San Jose Sharks.

That has potentially changed, however, because according to Sharks fan podcast Teal Town USA, Jumbo Joe's sprawling pad has sold for a cool $8.7 million.

While the sale has yet to be confirmed by major outlets, it looks very likely the longtime Shark has officially parted ways with his former California home.

The news surely disappoints longtime Sharks fans who continue hoping the 42-year-old will return to Silicon Valley before retiring. However, the sale wouldn't have any impact on Thornton retiring as a Shark if he so chooses -- much like how former Sharks Dan Boyle and Evgeni Nabokov did before him.

Thornton is currently the second-oldest active player in the NHL, behind long-time Boston Bruins Zdeno Chara, who is 44 years old. (Thornton's former teammate Patrick Marleau, also 42, is not currently on an NHL roster.)

The Florida Panthers signed Thornton to a one-year deal ahead of the 2021-22 season. He is currently ranked 14th on the NHL's All-Time Points Leaders list and is the only active player in the top 25.
